White-Tailed Deer/Conclusion

Conclusion

White-tailed deer management is a complex subject. There are no prescriptions for deer management that work every time for every situation. Nevertheless, a person really interested in managing deer can learn how to manage them.

Management involves being familiar with deer biology, establishing goals, monitoring deer and their habitat, manipulating habitat to fulfill deer requirements, and regulating deer herd health, numbers, and sex ratio. All of these aspects are interrelated and are important for successful management.

This publication provides much of the information necessary to initiate a deer management program in the Cross Timbers. For persons unfamiliar with deer management, we recommend this publication be used as a guide in conjunction with professional technical assistance.
