The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Pecan Grafting and Plant Propagation Workshop from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 10, at the Howell Ranch and Noble Foundation's greenhouse. During the morning session, participants will travel to Howell Ranch where Noble Foundation horticulturalists, along with Jim Smith from Benson Park Pecans, will demonstrate proper grafting techniques before assisting the workshop attendees in a grafting exercise. Transportation to the site will be available, leaving at 9 a.m. from the lobby of the Noble Foundation's Agricultural Division, located at 2510 Sam Noble Parkway in Ardmore. After a lunch break, the workshop will reconvene at the Noble Foundation greenhouse, where Noble horticulturalists will cover a variety of propagation techniques for domesticated plants, including air layering, t-budding, cleft grafting and semi-hardwood rooting methods. "Grafting is an important plant management technique," said Charles Rohla, Ph.D., Noble Foundation horticulturalist. "This hands-on workshop is an excellent opportunity for participants to gain experience and learn some new techniques that they can immediately use." The Pecan Grafting and Plant Propagation Workshop is offered at no cost to the public.
