Strawberry Program to Highlight Varieties, Production Methods ARDMORE, Okla. — Noble Foundation horticulturist Steve Upson will present a Twilight Strawberry Tour on Tuesday, April 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. "This will be an informal but very informative program," Upson said. "We'll look at some of the studies the Foundation is conducting, like variety trials and hoop house activities. This will be of interest to both the hobby gardener and those interested in growing strawberries commercially." Other topics to be covered include: variety selection, watering, fertility, pest control, cultural techniques, harvesting and budgets. "Just because we haven't had a strawberry industry in southern Oklahoma doesn’t mean that we can't have one," Upson said. "With new varieties and production techniques, strawberries can be grown almost anywhere." This event will be held at the Foundation's Horticulture Area. To reach the Horticulture Area, turn south off Sam Noble Parkway at the white sign that reads "Noble Foundation Construction Entrance." Travel south on the gravel road to the top of the hill. Please pre-register for this event by calling Melissa Castleman at (580) 224-6411. ### The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, headquartered in Ardmore, Okla., is a non-profit organization conducting agricultural, forage biotechnological, and plant biology research; providing grants to numerous non-profit charitable, educational and health organizations; and assisting farmers and ranchers through educational and consultative agricultural programs.
